Har VaGai English Day |
|
English Day for the entire eighth grade is a long standing tradition. The English Staff, the eighth grade staff and our former students doing a year of pre-army service at our school carry out English Day. Every homeroom class is divided into groups with train station names from New York and London. They "switch stations" at the sound of the train whistle.
There are stations in every classroom, consisting of Trivia, Music-Guess That Tune, Lucky Dip, Trivia, Speak English Only Café and a play or large group game. In the past few years we have been holding English Day in the winter, preferably around Hanukah as a theme. The columns in the center of the eighth grade building are decorated with posters and information about customs of different peoples surrounding the theme of "Light and Darkness" with a teacher ever-present as a guide.
There are four hours of English for fun in which there is a great deal of exposure to English and some production. Teachers and students can see each other in a different light. All students are given an opportunity to shine. |
