Meir Shfeya Youth Village

During the past 3 years, students in the 8th grade English Speakers' Class at the Meir Shfeyah Youth Village have been involved in all aspects of the production of a musical play. This involves 5 months of memorizing and analyzing scripts, rehearsing, learning songs, choreography and dancing, writing programs, posters and advertising, designing and building sets, recording a soundtrack, lighting and sound and designing costumes , make up and hair. I began this project in 2005, without a budget, without additional staff assistance but with some former experience putting on plays with children in summer camps in order to provide a memorable and meaningful learning experience for our students and also for the satisfaction of doing something unexpected, unrequired and exceptional.

The students begin reading, auditions and rehearsals in January and after about 5 months of preparation, put on two performances for the entire student body of the village ( 300 students in grades 7-12) and for the staff and parents who are invited for the evening performance. Our productions  include " The Little Shop of Horrors " in 2005 , " Grease " in 2006 . In 2007 we are making a movie of "The Breakfast Club".
