The Learning Centre at Misgav School was established about nine years ago in order to respond to a need for L.D. kids and/or those with emotional or other difficulties to have a place in the school outside the classroom which would provide them with the tools to cope and succeed in the school environment. The Learning Centre caters to students in various subjects, including English, Math, Civics, History, Literature and Bible.

As the English teacher I was thrilled as I had had a dream for many years to have a special place in the school. I had envisaged this place as being 'the heart' of the school, a place where other teachers and I could work with pupils who had lost their power and self-confidence throughout many years of constant failure.

In fact, it is just that. We work on two levels: One is building self-esteem and being a mirror to the pupils of their own beauty, competence and self-worth.

The second function we fulfill is to support them and provide learning strategies, instruction and practice for the on-going classroom work.

It is a home from home for many students, providing them with a safe, happy and non-competitive environment in which we see them learning, realizing what their own potential is, growing and gaining confidence and ultimately succeeding!
