General  Dyslexia  
                          Teacher  awareness  Checklist

 

1.              Difficulty with spelling.

2.             Reversal of the sequence of form (was / saw; out / not).

3.             Some member of the family had or has same symptoms and/or difficulty.

4.             Capital “I” for small “i”; “m” for “n”; doy for dog.  Mixes upper and lower case letters ( beTTer ).

5.             Confusion of words that look alike.

6.             Reading and writing reflect speech errors ( wif / with ).

7.             Distractibility.

8.             Handwriting erratic indicating confusion.  May lack a  smooth free-flowing, even style;  inability to stay close to margin.

9.             Poor concentration.

10.        Difficulty copying from the board.

11.        Faulty association of letters, words and objects.    

12.        Doesn’t recognize familiar words.

13.        Low tolerance for stress.

14.        Short memory for printed words and instructions.

15.        Early fatigue in reading lesson.

16.        Repetition of words and phrases in oral reading.

17.        Choppy, word-by-word oral reading, with long pauses (like a beginner).

18.        Loses place, does not understand what has been read.

19.        Guesses indiscriminately.

20.        Spells words differently in one piece of writing.

21.        May not complete assignments, may lose work, etc.
