A child talks in the language of gesture. And he thinks in the language of images and emotional recall. He understands speech, but not so much the words themselves as the gestures and tone of voice.
He stretches out his hands towards a desired object:Give it! He keeps reaching for something, and finally, with great effort succeeds in obtaining it. He sighs deeply and with this sigh of relief he is saying 'At last!' Now try and take it away from him! And in ten different ways he will be telling you: 'I will not give it up!' He lifts his head, he sits, he stands up - 'I am doing things!' And what does the smiling mouth and eyes communicate if not: 'I am so happy to be alive!'
